Hinges

Hinges are mechanical devices that connect two solid objects, typically allowing only a limited angle of rotation between them. Essentially, they are a type of joint that enables movement in one direction while restricting movement in others.

  • Butt Hinges: The most common type, consisting of two leaves that are mortised into the edge of the door and the door frame.
  • Strap Hinges: Have long leaves that are surface-mounted to the door and the frame.
  • Piano Hinges: Long, flexible hinges used for cabinet doors, lids, and other applications where a continuous hinge is needed.
  • Concealed Hinges: Designed to be hidden from view, often used on cabinet doors.
  • Spring Hinges: Contain a spring that assists in closing the door.
